Your preferred reading time

This is a general question (out of my usual curiousity) :

What time of day/week do you usually read??

Personally, I'll read at any time- if i find a good book, I won't put it down until I've finished (the last time Harry Potter came out, i went to midnight madness and finished it at around 4:00 am that same morning) which is something my parents certainly aren't happy about (but what can they do? I've been collecting flashlights and booklights since they were invented). I'll often read a half-an-hour before bed, as alot of the people i know do. Some younger children prefer this because it's becomes habit, with bedtime stories from their baby-days but I'm not really sure if this changes as people get older.

Do you have a particular time of day, or day or the week that you do most of your reading on??

i usually pick up a book whenever i'm bored, which is usually during the day, although i also read a little bit before i go to sleep, unless i'm seriously tired. i can't say that i've ever read that late into the night before, though. after a certain point, i'm too tired - my hands and eyelids get heavy. reading is a really good way to relax and get ready for bed, though!!

Isabelle,

I used to read by the hall light until I got caught. My mom had a fit.
By third grade, I was reading at a grade 7 level. Unfortunately, in those days there was no gifted program.

Now, when I read, it is a stolen moment. I never get to do what I want.

My favourite time to read is a snowy, cold Sunday afternoon.

I find now if I read before bed, I wake up in the middle of the night with the lights on and the book on the floor.

I also try to sneak in reading during stolen moments throughout the day. What I find is that I have lots of different books/magazines on the go at once, since I like to read different things in different situations. The book I have a book I carry in my bag in case I'm waiting places or on the subway is usually non-fiction (since they're easier to start and stop); I'll have one at home that I read on the balcony with coffee after dinner (usually literature or a history book); one at work for breaks (usually something from the teen collection, or something in either French or Italian - since I have to concentrate harder in other languages, I can only read in doses); a book on CD in the car; stuff like cooking, art or craft books all over the house ... that kind of thing.

i actually love reading books below my reading level (i know, this isnt a good habit). my all-time favourite younger reading-level books are the amazing days of abby hayes. i actually started to read them in grade 5, which is the reading level, so you can't really blame me. i really enjoy the books, and keep up with the series (there are currently 19 books). but i guess i can be held responsible for reading them over and over again - what can i say, i love it!!

Jen,

sometimes i read some of the preteen books because they are quick to read.

There is nothing wrong with reading below your reading level.

When i worked in children's I went back to the Little House of the Prairie series because they added new books.
