Hey!
I have been reading a book called "Chanda's Secrets" by Allan Stratton. Chanda a sixteen year old's life was perfect until her dad and her two brother died. That is when her problems started to appear. Her mother married a guy named Issac. Iris her step-sister was born from him. However Issac was being abusive to Chanda so Chanda and her mom, Iris moved away from Issac. LAter on Chanda's mother marries another guy named Mr.Dube. Soly Chanda's step-brother was born from him. LAter on MR.Dube died of stroke. Soon after Mr.Dube's death Chnada's mother marries another guy named Jonah who is a drug-addicts and who also sometimes has sexual intercourse with another girl named MAry. Jonah somehow gets HIV/AIDS. Chanda's mother get HIV/AIDS. Chanda's best friend who is a whore gets HIV/AID. Even worse Chanda worries that she will get AIDS too because her mom did. Fortunately Chanda doesn;t get AIDS but her moom dies of AIDS. SO later Chanda stop going to school and goes to work to care for the rest of the family. This book made me learn a lor of things. The story of chanda's secret is a true, personal story of what ahpped in a woman's life and it is a story of what happened in a woman;s life and it is a story of many people in South Arica. In this book Chanda and her family go through poverty every day. they do't have good clothes to wear, good healthcare, good schooling. This book made me appreciate the things that i have such as free schooling. I extremely feel sorry for those kids in South africa like us they have many dreams that they want to see happen but however they have to bury those dreams because they can't afford a good education. I hope countries like South Africa soon get developed. Another issue that this book made me more of HIV/AIDS which is a life killing disease. One of the reason why deveeloping countries are still deveeloping countries is because of AIDs. I hope soon doctors and scientists find a cure for AIDS. Beasue of AIDS many children are left as an orphan. From all the book that i have read in the past Chanda's Secrets is a book that made me to think of the issues around our world. This book made me realize how fortunate i am to be living in a nation like canada.

Mina,

Unfortuantely, this is the reality of life in Africa. When my daughter was born almost 22 years ago, they were trying to raise money to solve hunger and problems in Africa. All this time later, they have still not solved the problems of Africans.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation raises money for Africa. They do so much good for African families: educating children, health care, food, etc. Recently, Warren Buffet, another billionaire gave them 33 billion dollars or 3/4 of his fortune for them to use as they saw fit.

Hollywood actors are also drawing attention to the causes of Africa. Musicians are still trying to champion their concerns.

The York Region District School Board teamed with the Stephen Lewis Foundation to help children in Africa.

Oprah has also given money to build schools and help girls, particularly in Africa. She feels that if girls are educated and given opportunities, the whole family will survive.

HIV/AIDS is a tough topic. Medical science is making such progress in this field. Years ago, it was a death sentence. In North America and western society, Aids is still an issue but it is under control. Africa has a long way to go.

Unfortunately, in Africa, the cost of the care and the living conditions make it impossible for all people to have equal access to care and medication.

Foundations like the Gates, Doctors without Borders, Red Cross, etc are doing their best.
Many independent religious organizations are also working to raise money for this cause.

In addition, these groups are also providing basic medical care, food and immunization for families.

Some day, there will be a cure.

Catherine
