The breadwinner

This story has nothing to do with bread!! it is about a young girl during the Afghani war who has to dress up as a boy to earn money for her family. Her father is taken to prsion because he had attended university, and her brother had been killed by a land mine. Her famioy learns to cope with their situation, but are forced to commit acts they would never normally do. The bravery of this girl (parvana) is outstanding and I think that readers could learn alot from this book.

Hi, BK:

I am not sure if you saw my earlier posting. The author Deborah Ellis has received critical praise for this book.
She frequently does school visits, in the area.

What a good read considering the current world situation.
